Week 4 - BALT 4364 - Real World AI Use Case

YouTube TV Problem & AI Fix

I was able to use AI to fix a real-world problem with my YouTube TV subscription. The problem I was having was that every time I would open YouTube TV, there would be two scrollbars on the right-hand side of the screen. Anyone familiar with the application understands that it's used to navigate to different content, etc. Except, the problem would persist when I enter full-screen mode.

As the owner of an OLED monitor, I’m very aware of the risk of image burn-in, a well-known issue with OLED technology. Burn-in, also known as image retention, occurs when a static image remains on the screen for an extended period, causing certain pixels to degrade faster than others. This happens because OLED displays use individually lit pixels to produce images, unlike traditional LCD screens that rely on a uniform backlight. While OLEDs are capable of delivering stunning visuals with deep blacks and extremely high contrast ratios, making them ideal for watching movies or other content, their pixel-based design makes them more vulnerable to burn-in over time. View the image below for an example of why I was so afraid of the dreaded scrollbar in the first place.

I consulted ChatGPT because I knew there was a way to implement some sort of code in the webpage to get it to hide the scrollbar entirely. Immediately, it understood the problem I was having and prompted me to install a Chrome extension called Stylus.

I also ended up making a Reddit post for others with the same problem. Below is an example of what the post details:

[Fix] Scroll Bar Won’t Go Away on YouTube TV? Here’s What Finally Worked for Me

If you're like me and super annoyed that the scrollbar refuses to disappear on YouTube TV (especially in full-screen mode), I finally found a fix that actually worked — and it's weirdly simple.

✅ The Fix: Use the Stylus Extension

  1. Install the Stylus browser extension:

  2. Create a new style for tv.youtube.com.

  3. Paste this CSS:

    ::-webkit-scrollbar {
      display: none !important;
    }

    body {
      overflow: hidden !important;
    }

  4. Save the style and refresh YouTube TV.
